Here are a few answers to often asked
questions about the Church of Christ
1) Why is your group called the Church of Christ?
The name Church of Christ is one of the few names by which the
Church is called in the New Testament. In Romans16:16 it is
written: "All the Churches of Christ send greetings."
2) When did the Church of Christ begin?
The Bible tells us in the Book of Acts that the Church of
Christ has its origin in the year our Lord Jesus died, during the
celebration of the Pentecost. This is the moment when Jesus'
apostles received the Holy Spirit promised beforehand by Jesus. We
believe that the Church of Christ survived over the centuries that
passed since the events described in the Book of Acts and it
continues to be alive today. Some of these groups of true
believers and followers of Christ survived in isolated communities
while others survived as members of different groups of organized
religion.
However there is a common misconception and people believe the
Church of Christ is our name since we were forced by the
Government to register as a religious entity. The Church of Christ
is not only our name but it is our description. We are a body of
believers and followers of Jesus Christ who belongs to Him.
Organizationally the Church of Christ was registered with the
Government in 1906 by Alexander Campbell. One of the significant
differences between the organization of the Churches of Christ and
other groups of believers is that each Church of Christ
congregation is independent of all others and is led by a group of
elders who are under the authority of Jesus Christ. Thus the
Churches of Christ have only one "head" or "president", The Lord
Jesus Christ.
